I was fascinated by Larry Summers’ remarks on Meet the Press this morning. Well, more accurately, I was fascinated by how he managed to not only keep his ass in the air for that long, but also by how he kept a coat and tie around it without any discernible slippage. David Gregory, quoting Dick Armey on the issue of the Tea Parties thrown this past week, had the following exchange with Summers:
“Armey said the real target of the protestors’ ire is not the current tax rate but the much higher one that will be needed to pay for trillions of dollars in financial-sector bailouts; the stimulus package…and Obama’s ambitious health-care and education initiatives, which are projected to raise the debt by trillions of dollars more. `There’s no way he can do the spending he does and cut taxes for most people.’” Does he have that wrong?
DR. SUMMERS: I think he does. I think he does, David, and, you know, I think the record speaks for itself. What the president’s proposed is a tax cut for 95 percent of all Americans. You know, I don’t know that much about politics, but I’ve been surprised by these TEA parties a bit. The president is the one who’s proposing cutting taxes on virtually all Americans, so I’m not sure who these TEA parties see as being King George.
Summers, like any of the other hacks who are working with Obama to institute socialism in America, is simply being obtuse. It doesn’t matter what the marginal tax rate is today or what our payroll taxes are today or what the tax burdens on a gallon of gasoline are today. Rather, it matters what they will be in a year or two years’ time when all of this madhouse spending that the Democrats are doing today will require major tax hikes. What these fucking criminals are doing is promising so much stuff now that there will be no choice but to increase taxes later —with them hiding behind more and more bullshit about what must be done to deliver us from the Great Recession, even if it’s their own policies and programs that are prolonging or worsening the economic problems.
These elitist hacks are not in any doubt about what the Tea Party movement means, but they’d rather pretend otherwise.
Let them pretend to the last.
