“The Leader of the Free World”
Until two months ago, it was always possible to refer to the President of the United States by the old Cold War title of the “leader of the free world.” It was something to remind us that we were different from the Soviets and Red China and all the other wretched peoples struggling under Communism. One could have even used it to refer to Jimmy Carter. Good God! Think of that! But today it sounds ridiculous when applied to someone whose greatest desire is to diminish and devalue our place in the world. Today it is a dead term.
What a great tragedy the American People have brought onto themselves. I still sometimes cannot believe it’s happening.
